Book Keeping Courses

When you enrol, you will be assigned an experienced, qualified personal tutor, who will be available for you throughout your book keeping courses. You do not have to worry about expensive telephone call charges as you can call as often as you wish, using your dedicated free phone number direct to your tutor, which will be provided to your as soon as you register for your course.

Our tutors are also experienced in running their own business, so real practical advice is always at hand. Constructive feedback will also be provided throughout the courses. You will be given all the support and guidance, so you gain confidence and competence with your new skills. There are no time limitations for any of our book keeping courses as you are encouraged to progress at your own pace. All courses can be taken without exams; upon completion certificates of competence will be awarded by Clever Cloggs Training Academy.

We strongly recommend you take examinations for your courses, which will prove not only your ability and skills as a bookkeeper but will reward you with a nationally recognised professional qualification.

What are the requirements to become a qualified bookkeeper?

The ICB examination syllabus covers both manual and computerised courses which measures your ability to carry out the work of a bookkeeper. The examinations are split into three levels

Level I - Certificate in Basic Manual Bookkeeping
Level II - Certificate in Manual or Computerised Bookkeeping
Level III - Diploma in Manual or Computerised Bookkeeping
Fast Track Qualification Program
Studying Abroad

This manual course is mandatory, however once you acquire the skills and knowledge at this stage you can choose to move onto a Computerised course – Level II.

Level I - The Certificate in Basic Manual Bookkeeping - a good starting point if you are looking to develop a sound knowledge of basic bookkeeping skills, leading to a choice of further levels of qualifications. The course is ideal if you wish to start a new career in bookkeeping, need help with the running of your own business, keep up to date with your finances, or wish to develop new skills for your job. The course covers the basic principles of double entry bookkeeping and how they are used in business.
The exam is taken in an environment of your own choice, there is no need to attend a specialist examination centre.

Level II - The Certificate in Manual Bookkeeping - provides in depth knowledge of the principles and concepts of bookkeeping including VAT returns Trading Profit & Loss and Balance sheets. You will learn how to enter the accounts manually for a sole trader from the start of business up to the year end accounts.
Exams are scheduled three times a year, taken at a local examination centre.

Level II - The Certificate Computerised Bookkeeping - designed to demonstrate the benefits of using computerised software, which turn time consuming chores into simple tasks. Whilst it is important to understand the basic concepts of double entry bookkeeping, using computerised software will enhance your accounting and computerised skills, saving you a great deal of time and effort. The course is also ideal for small business owners who wish to develop their business skills. You will learn how to set up your business accounts, record all your financial transactions; update your ledgers; produce invoices automatically and much more. You will build upon the basic principles of bookkeeping from your level 1 course. Explanations of how the principles work are given, before entering the data into the computer.
The exam is taken in an environment of your own choice, there is no need to attend a specialist examination centre.

The Diploma Courses are designed to follow on from level II courses. The topics covered will take you towards a more technical level of your bookkeeping enabling you to offer a more in-depth service to you clients and have a much deeper level of understanding of your business. You will be introduced to Limited companies, Manufacturing and Partnership accounts together with useful management tools enabling you to offer and fully understand year end procedures in more detail.

Level III - Diploma in Manual Bookkeeping - having achieved Level II Manual bookkeeping learners can progress onto the manual Diploma level.
Exams are scheduled three times a year, taken at a local examination centre.

Level III –Diploma in Computerised Bookkeeping - having achieved Level II Computerised Bookkeeping learners can progress onto the computerised Diploma level.
The exam is taken in an environment of your own choice, there is no need to attend a specialist examination centre.

Fast Track Qualification Program

Increasingly, we are enrolling many experienced bookkeepers and accounts clerks who are seeking to further their bookkeeping skills and knowledge to a higher level. We provide a fast track qualification programme tailored for individual needs. At the end of the programme you will be qualified at ICB Diploma Level III. If you are an experienced bookkeeper and are seeking formal qualifications, we will provide you with a personal fast track programme tailored to your individual needs, which will enable you to undertake examinations only. Personal tutor support will be provided.

We can help you gain accreditation for your prior bookkeeping experience. Accreditation may be granted by the ICB for prior experience or other bookkeeping qualifications, for example you may wish to apply for exemptions from taking the full courses/examinations to obtain ICB membership status. However the ICB exemption can take up to 3 months to process. Please call us for further details

Studying Abroad?

We have past and present students who are not based in the UK .

Our book keeping courses are ideal for poeple based over seas. We will organise for your home-based examination to be emailed directly to you for completion. Subject to ICB’s completion deadline date, you simply return your exam to ICB by email.

Centre-based examinations can be completed at a British Council Office in your country.  We will organise all of this for you as part of our ongoing support.

Money Laundering Act 2007

If you provide bookkeeping services at any level and charge for services you are now in a regulated profession. Just like accountants, auditors, and tax advisors you are also an ASP [Accountancy Service Provider], which means you must be registered with HMRC or a HMRC Appointed Supervisory Body. You will also have to undertake the responsibility of checking and assessing your clients in compliance with the MLR regulations. The ICB is an official appointed body and will be happy to help you with all of this as a registered member.

All practising ICB members will receive a Practice Guidance Manual which includes instructions on professional conduct ad procedures regarding the MLR Act 2007. MLR legislation applies to all self-employed bookkeepers.
